Mr. Strauss was nominated by Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville, North Carolina.

The Excellence in Governance Award is awarded annually to a voluntary leader who has served with distinction on the governing board of a LeadingAge North Carolina member organization and, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, has made an outstanding contribution to the well-being of seniors, the employees who serve them, and to the organization’s non-profit mission. Visionary leaders who are members of the governing board, contributing significant time, effort, and expertise, are eligible for nomination. Selections are made from those who have provided exceptional service beyond the call of duty and who have a history of personally significant financial contributions or exceptional acts of philanthropy. Award recipients have demonstrated expertise in and openness to best practices in nonprofit governance and have shown outstanding leadership in achieving specific goals and objectives of the member organization.
